Other Works
Akino has had two ladies’ comics series published by Ohzora Publishing (宙出社) and at least partly distributed by Shufu to Seikatsu Sha (主婦と生活社) under the Missy Comics label: Reikan Shouhou Kabushikigaisha (霊感商法株式会社) 1-15 and Petshop of Horrors 1-10. Both series have also had two releases under Sonorama Comic Bunko, the second from Asahi Shimbun: Reikan Shouhou Kabushikigaisha in ten volumes, and Petshop of Horrors in seven volumes. Reikan Shouhou Kabushikigaisha has also been released in a convenience-store digest edition. There is an English Pet Shop of Horrors translation published by TokyoPop, and the title was also made into an animated TV series which has been translated into English by Urban Vision. There is also a related artbook, Maboroshi no Hanayoi no Tsuki (幻華宵月), first put out by Asahi Sonorama and rereleased by Asahi Shimbun Publications.
Ohzora published Akino’s rendition of A Man for Megan by Darlene Scalera, titled Nisen-nenme no Propose (二千年めのプロポーズ), and Kurayami no Phantasy (暗闇のファンタジー) 1-2, from Twilight Phantasies by Maggie Shayne, under Emerald Comics - Harlequin Series. Harlequin (ハーレクイン) has released electronic versions of both titles. Other ladies’ comics are Iten no Tsubasa (倚天の翼) 1-2 and Tsuki Akirakani Hoshi Marenari (月明らかに星稀なり), published by Home-Sha, a subsidiary of Shueisha (集英社), under Eyes Comics.
Bunkasha published Kaitou Alexandrite* (怪盗アレキサンドライト) 1-8, Kugutsu Hana Yuugi: Chinese Coppelia (傀儡華遊戯 チャイニーズ・ コッペリア) 1-5, and Watson no Inbou: Sherlock Holmes Ibun* (ワトソンの陰謀 シャーロック・ホームズ異聞) 1-3.
Akino also did the ladies’ titles Chihiro ni Saku Hana (千尋に咲く花) 1-2, Kada Fuurai Den (華佗風来伝) 1-2, and Meikoku no Canon (冥黒の奏音) 1-3, published by Shodensha (祥伝社) under Gensou Collection (幻想コレクション).
Petshop of Horrors: Passage Hen (Petshop of Horrors パサージュ編) 1-5 and Petshop of Horrors: Hyouhaku no Hakobune Hen* (Petshop of Horrors 漂泊の箱舟編) 1 were both serialized in the ladies' fantasy magazine Mugentou (夢幻燈), published by Harlequin (ハーレクイン), now HarperCollins Japan (ハーパーコリンズ・ ジャパン). These last two pieces of the larger Petshop of Horrors series are also available in an electronic edition.
She contributed pieces to the ladies’ Vampire Anthology (バンパイアアンソロジー) series published by Gakken (学研) under Pichi Comics. Yoru no Kakaku: Night Exile (夜の過客 Night exile ) 1-2, also from Gakken under Pichi Comics, is a compilation of these short works. A Yoru no Kakaku (夜の過客) reprint has been released by Bunkasha under Horror M Comic Bunko (ホラーMコミック文庫). Akino has contributed to Gakken’s Gensou Shokan* (幻想書簡) anthology series, which seems to simply be a continuation of the Vampire Anthology under a new name.
She has also published two other girls’ series through Kadokawa Shoten (角川書店)’s Asuka Comics Deluxe, the first a version of As You Like It, O-ki ni Mesu Mama* (お気に召すまま) 1-3, rereleased in a single bunko-ban volume by Bunkasha; and the other the Mulan legend as written by Yoshiki Tanaka (田中芳樹), Kaze yo, Banri o Kakeyo (風よ、万里を翔けよ).
And she did the illustrations for the Hikari to Yami no Legend (光と闇のレジェンド) book series.
