Other Works:
Maya is of course best known for his long-running girls’ gag series Patalliro! (パタリロ!). It is currently at volume 99 under Hakusensha (白泉社)’s Hana to Yume Comics (花とゆめコミックス) and volume 50 of Hakusensha Bunko (白泉社文庫), as well as having a digest release under My Best Remix. There was also an animated TV series, a movie, a novelization [text by Tomoko Konparu (金春智子)], and quite a few associated titles from Hakusensha: Patalliro! (パタリロ西遊記!) 1-8, which has also been animated and released in five bunko-ban volumes, Patalliro Genji Monogatari! (パタリロ源氏物語!) 1-5, Kaseifu Patalliro! (家政夫パタリロ!), Patalliro Saiyuki! Gaiden (パタリロ西遊記! 外伝), Oku-sama wa Patalliro! (奥様はパタリロ!), Bistro Onsen Patalliro! (ビストロ温泉パタリロ!), Patalliro Shishou no Rakugo Nyuumon* (パタリロ師匠の落語入門), Demodori Kaseifu Patalliro! (出もどり家政夫パタリロ!), Jingi Naki Kasei Otto Patalliro!* (仁義なき家政夫パタリロ!), and Papa!? Patalliro! (パパ!? パタリロ!). Most of the Patalliro! titles have also been released electronically.
Another Patalliro! spin-off, Rashan!* (ラシャーヌ!), apparently began with an occult/mystery theme but quickly became another gag title. Seven volumes were published under Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume Comics, and it was later reprinted in four volumes of Hakusensha Bunko. The girls' SF title Zero Star (ゼロ星) was released by Akita Shoten in two volumes under Princess Comics, and one volume under Akita Bunko.
Maya also created many boys’ titles through Hakusensha’s Shounen Jets (少年ジェッツ) and Jets Comics:
- Ruru Kame! (ルル亀!)
- Oraga-maru (おらが丸)
(reprinted in Hakusensha Bunko) - Omoshiro Hanbunkko (おもしろ半分ッ子)
- Bishounenteki Daikyouke* (美少年的大狂言) 1-2
(reprinted as one volume of Hakusensha Bunko) - V Madonna (V・ マドンナ)
- Kyoufu Manga Kan Shinin no Hanayome (恐怖まんが館死人の花嫁)
- Hai School Shinkirou (破異スクール新鬼郎)
- Youkai Shimatsunin Trauma Kan* (妖怪始末人トラウマ館)
- Maya Mineo no Youkai Kanzume (魔夜峰央の妖怪缶詰)
(reprinted/continued in two volumes of Hakusensha Bunko)
More recent boys’ titles are Crepuscule: Ouma ga Toki (クレプスキュール 逢魔が刻), Twilight: Ooma ga Toki (トワイライト 大禍刻), and Aurora: Ouma ga Toki (オーロラ 王魔が刻), all published by Tokuma Shoten (徳間書店) under Ryu Comics.
Some ladies’ comic titles were also put out under Jets Comics: Yaoi-kun no Nichijouteki de Nai Seikatsu (やおい君の日常的でない生活), Oya Baka Nisshi* (親バカ日誌), Oya Baka no Kabe (親バカの壁), Oya Baka Ronde (親バカ輪舞), and Oya Baka Hinkaku (親バカの品格). Hakusensha has also released a bunko-ban edition of Oya Baka Nisshi*. Home-Sha, a subsidiary of Shueisha (集英社), released Midnight Dimension (ミッドナイトディメンション) 1-2 under Eyes Comics and Super Cat (スーパーキャット) under Home Comics (ホームコミックス); Midnight Dimension was rereleased in a single volume by Akita Shoten under Akita Bunko.
Shueisha published Youkai Shimatsunin Trauma!! to Binbougami* (妖怪始末人トラウマ!! と貧乏神), presumably a ladies’ sequel to Youkai Shimatsunin Trauma!!* (see above) under Queen’s Comics. May Tantei Puricolo* (May探偵プリコロ) 1-4 was published under Feel Comics Roma Puri Collection (Feelコミックス ロマ×プリコレクション) by Shodensha (祥伝社). Three related volumes have been published by Tokyo Sogensha (東京創元社): May Tantei Puricolo no Kikan* (May探偵プリコロの帰還), May Tantei Puricolo no Roubai* (May探偵プリコロの狼狽), and May Tantei Puricolo no Fushin* (May探偵プリコロの不信). Ohta (太田出版) published the Patalliro-Puricolo cross-over comic Puricolo* (プリコロ).
The "variety anthology" Hamster ga Ichiban (ハムスターがいちばん) was put out under Kobunsha Girls’ Comic (光文社ガールズコミック). Takeshobo (竹書房) published the "boys’ love" title Surprise Hotel (サプライズホテル) under Bamboo Comics. A picture book by Maya about the life and works of Salvador Dali, Maya Mineo no "Dali-teki Mahoujutsu" (魔夜峰央の 「ダリ的魔法術」), was published by Shogakukan (小学館).
The autobiographical Maya Mineo no Madoromi Nikki: Honjitsu mo Ijou Nashi (魔夜峰央のまどろみ日記 本日も異常ナシ) was published by Akita Shoten under Akita Essay Collection. The intended audience for Tonde Saitama (翔んで埼玉), published by TAKARAJIMASHA (宝島社) under Kono Manga ga Sugoi! Comics (このマンガがすごい!comics), is unclear. But the various semi-autobiographical stories set in Saitama do not seem to be horror in any case. Maya also contributed to the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! Comics anthology Kono "Chihou Dis" Manga ga Hidoi!* (この「地方ディス」マンガがひどい!).
An eclectic collection of short pieces, U~n, Mandom.* (う~ん、 マンダム。), was published by PHP Institute (PHP研究所). This volume includes the first chapter of Rashan!,* which might possibly be considered girls' horror. Maya's Spiritual Mangaka!* (スピリチュアル漫画家!), also from PHP Institute, appears to be a volume of essays.
>And a Mineo Maya Tarot (魔夜峰央タロット) card set was released by Setsuwa (説話社).
