Abi Umeda (梅田阿比)

Creator of the Mystery Bonita (ミステリーボニータ) title Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau (クジラの子らは砂上に歌う).  VIZ released the series in English under the name Children of the Whales.  The title was also made into an animated series.

Fuutarou Yamada (山田風太郎)

Author of the novel Makai Tenshou (魔界転生), on which Shōko Toba (鳥羽笙子)’s Makai Tenshou:  Yume no Ato (魔界転生  夢の跡) and Naoko Kugo (九後奈緒子)’s Makai Tenshou:  Beato no Koushin* (魔界転生  聖者の行進) were based.

Mayuri Yamamoto (山本まゆり)

An incredibly prolific comics creator, credited with over 120 volumes, not even counting the many reworkings and reprints.  Her first major title was the "true horror" series Mayuri no Shock Report (魔百合の恐怖報告), at least partly written by spiritualist Reiko Terao (寺尾玲子).  Her most popular title, juding by the many editions and sequels, was the Reinousha Ogata Katsumi Series (霊能者緒方克巳シリーズ).  Her ladies' horror title Reset was made into a live-action TV series.

Osamu Yamasaki (山崎理)

Wrote the storylines for Henshin Tenshou Denki Hen:  Akai Hayate (変身転生伝奇編  紅いハヤテ), the Kasumi-kun no Abunai Seikatsu (霞くんの危険な生活) series, and Saotome Azusa Mystery File (早乙女あずさ事件簿), all drawn by Chiyomi Itani (井澗千代美).

Hiroyasu Yamaura (山浦弘靖)

Kaya Urakawa (浦川佳弥) adapted Satsujin Kippu wa Heart-iro (殺人切符はハート色) and Kyouto Meiro Chizu wa Clover-iro (京都迷路地図はクローバー色), the first two novels of his long-running Seiko (星子) mystery series, as well as illustrating several others.  Incidentally, most of the original novel series featured illustrations by Ayumi Hattori (服部あゆみ).

Yamazaki Toru (山咲トオル)

Yamazaki is probably better known for his work in the entertainment industry.  But he has also drawn several girls’ horror comics, perhaps because he is a fan of Kazuo Umezu (楳図かずお).

Kentaro Yano (矢野健太郎)

Comics artist who drew Free Radical (フリーラジカル), published by Akita Shoten (秋田書店) under Horror Comics Special (ホラーコミックススペシャル).  He has otherwise only released boys' and men's comics, including the Jashin Densetsu Series* (邪神伝説シリーズ), released as the English electronic series The Challenger to Great Old Ones.  He also draws adult comics under the name Yantarou Keno (毛野楊太郎).

Seishi Yokomizo (横溝正史)

Creator of famous Japanese detective Kousuke Kindaichi (金田一耕助), he published dozens of novels and short stories.  Yakouchuu (夜光虫) and Kamen Gekijou (仮面劇場) were the basis for Ryoko Takashina (高階良子)’s Chimamire Kannon (血まみれ観音) and Shinju-iro no Kamen (真珠色の仮面), respectively.  JET adapted a considerable number of Yokomizo’s titles into comics:

Fumiko Nagao (長尾文子) has also produced comics from Honjin Satsujin Jiken and Inugami-Ke no Ichizoku.
